Quick Answer

How do I collect candid photos from wedding guests?

Collect guest photos via WhatsApp — guests reply to the wedding channel with their candids, Weddingkart attributes each photo to the guest, strips duplicates, and syncs to a Google Drive folder for the couple. No app install, no QR scan required.

The problem

Only 5% of guest photos ever reach the couple

At a 300-person Indian wedding, guests collectively take thousands of photos. Mama’s close-up during the pheras. Your best friend’s candid of the vidaai. Your nana shakily capturing the baraat. The cousins being ridiculous on the dance floor at 2 AM.

Most of it disappears. Not because guests don’t care — but because every existing collection method (Google Photos links, Instagram hashtags, QR code apps, disposable cameras) asks guests to do something new. Login walls, app downloads, scans, hashtag memorisation. Friction kills participation.

How guest photo collection works

Three steps. Zero configuration on the wedding day.

1

Guests send photos on WhatsApp

Your wedding already has a WhatsApp channel for announcements, RSVPs, and updates. Guests simply send their candids to that same chat, as they already do with friends and family.

2

Weddingkart filters and organises

The platform separates candid photos and videos from operational documents (ID cards, travel tickets), groups them by ceremony, and stamps each with the sender’s name.

3

Photos land in your Google Drive

Per-ceremony folders in the couple’s own Drive — mehendi, haldi, sangeet, wedding, reception — updated in real time throughout the event.

Why this works where others fail

Every other method asks the guest to do something new. This one doesn’t.

Zero guest friction

Guests do what they already do — send photos on WhatsApp. No app, no login, no QR scan, no new behaviour to learn.

Works for every age group

The 68-year-old dadi who has never scanned a QR code sends WhatsApp photos daily. WhatsApp is the one channel that covers every Indian wedding guest.

Per-ceremony albums

Photos auto-organised by ceremony — mehendi, haldi, sangeet, wedding, reception — each in its own Drive folder.

Delivered to your Google Drive

Files land directly in your own Drive. You own them, you control them, you can move or delete anytime.

Candids only, not paperwork

ID cards, travel tickets, and operational documents are automatically filtered out. Only the memories you actually want.

Narrow Drive access

Weddingkart uses the `drive.file` scope — it can only see folders it creates in your Drive, never anything else.

Private by default

No public galleries, no hashtag feeds, no social media. Photos stay within the wedding channel and your Drive.

Zero setup on event day

No table cards to print, no MC announcements to brief, no internet dependency at the venue. It just works.

Drive access is requested via OAuth 2.0 using the drive.file scope, the narrowest Drive permission Google publishes — it lets an app see only the files it creates, never the rest of the Drive.

Frequently asked questions

How does guest photo collection work on Weddingkart?+

Guests send candid photos and videos to the wedding’s WhatsApp chat as they normally would. Weddingkart captures every media file sent to that channel in real time and organises it into a per-ceremony gallery that is delivered to the couple’s Google Drive. No app, no login, no QR code, no new behaviour — guests do exactly what they already do on WhatsApp.

Do guests have to install anything?+

No. The entire flow happens on WhatsApp, which every guest already has. There is nothing to download, no link to open, no account to create, and no QR code to scan. This is why the approach works for guests across every age group — from grandparents who only use WhatsApp to cousins who use every app.

Does Weddingkart access the guest’s camera roll?+

No. Weddingkart only sees the photos a guest voluntarily sends to the wedding’s WhatsApp channel. The platform has no access to any guest’s camera roll, gallery, or personal photos. If a guest did not send a specific photo on WhatsApp, it does not appear in the album.

Are ID cards and travel tickets mixed in with the candids?+

No. ID cards, travel tickets, and other operational documents that guests send for the wedding are automatically excluded from the candid photo album. Only candid photos and videos appear in the Google Drive gallery.

Where are the photos stored?+

Photos are delivered to the couple’s own Google Drive folder. The files are owned by the couple, count against their Google storage quota, and can be moved, renamed, downloaded, or deleted at any time without involving Weddingkart. Weddingkart uses the narrow `drive.file` OAuth scope — it can only see files it creates in your Drive, nothing else.

Can photos be separated by ceremony (mehendi, sangeet, reception)?+

Yes. Because Weddingkart knows which day and ceremony a guest’s WhatsApp message arrived in, photos are automatically organised into per-ceremony folders — a separate Drive folder for mehendi, sangeet, haldi, wedding, and reception.

What about photo quality? Does WhatsApp compress them?+

WhatsApp compresses media files by default — photos land around 1,600 pixels wide. That is fine for phone viewing, family sharing, and small-to-medium prints. If you need large prints or canvas output, use your professional photographer’s shots. See our full comparison of photo collection methods for the trade-offs across WhatsApp, QR code apps, Google Photos, and Instagram.

Is this included in the standard Weddingkart plan?+

Yes. Guest photo collection is included in the Weddingkart Standard plan at ₹8,499 per wedding. No additional fee, no per-photo charge, no hidden add-ons.

Does this collect videos too, or only photos?+

Both. Any video a guest sends to the wedding WhatsApp channel is captured alongside photos and filed into the same per-ceremony folder in Drive. WhatsApp compresses videos aggressively — expect roughly 720p and around 16 MB per clip — so for high-fidelity footage, rely on your videographer’s raw files and treat the WhatsApp reel as bonus candid coverage.

Does it work for destination weddings with patchy venue Wi-Fi?+

Yes. Guests send photos from their own phones over their own mobile data or the venue’s Wi-Fi; Weddingkart processes messages on the server side. There is no Weddingkart app running on the venue network, and no venue-side setup on the wedding day. If a guest’s phone is offline at the moment they hit send, WhatsApp queues the message and the photo lands in your Drive as soon as they reconnect.

How many guest photos can a single wedding collect?+

We have not hit a practical ceiling. Weddings that have produced several thousand photos across five ceremonies flow through without throttling or splitting. The only real limit is the storage quota on the couple’s own Google account.

Can the couple bulk-download all photos at the end?+

Yes. Because the folders live in the couple’s own Google Drive, a right-click → Download on each ceremony folder produces a zip. Nothing is gated behind a Weddingkart export step or paywall — if you lose access to Weddingkart, you still own every file.
