Quick Answer

What should a 1st birthday invitation message say?

Five things: your child's name, that they are turning ONE (say it — it is the whole point of the party), the date and time, the venue with a landmark or map link, and whether a meal is served. Add an RSVP number so people can confirm. Keep it under 8 lines, use *bold* for the name and date, and send it 10 days before the party.

1st Birthday Invitation Messages: 45+ Wording Ideas for WhatsApp (English + Hindi)

22 July 2026

What a first birthday invite must include

A first birthday party is really a party for the parents — you survived the year. The invite should carry that feeling, but it also has a job to do. Five things, non-negotiable: your child's name, the fact that they are turning ONE (say it plainly, it is the entire occasion), the date and time, the venue with a landmark or a map link, and whether food is served. 'Lunch to follow' changes whether a family eats before leaving home. Add an RSVP number and you will actually know how many plates to order.

Length matters more than people think. Eight lines, maximum. Use WhatsApp *bold* for the name and the date so a guest skimming on a busy Tuesday catches both. Every sample below follows that rule.

Classic and warm — from the parents

These work for the family list — grandparents' friends, relatives, neighbours who have watched the baby grow. Warm, a little emotional, fully informative. Change the names, dates and venues and send.

📅 Sunday, 21st September
🕚 11 AM onwards

With love and gratitude,
Sourav and Ipsita

When to send it (and why 10 days is the number)

Send it 10 days before, not 3 weeks — people forget. Not 3 days either, because weekends fill up fast and you will get a string of 'oh no, we already committed' replies. Ten days is close enough to feel real and far enough to plan around. The one exception: out-of-town family who need train or flight tickets. Call them a month out; the WhatsApp invite later is just the formal version of what they already know.

Fun and playful

For friends, cousins and the younger family list. The baby-voice ones get the best replies — something about a one-year-old 'inviting' you makes people respond within minutes.

Group message or personal message?

Personal gets replies. Name the guest. 'Sharma Aunty, we want you there when Myra cuts her first cake' will get a reply within the hour; the same text dropped into a 60-person group gets two thumbs-up and silence. The reply is your RSVP — that is the whole point. Practical split: individual messages to the 30-40 people you genuinely want there, one group post for the building or society group where the invite is open to all. Yes, individual sending is tedious. It is also the difference between 20 confirmed guests and 20 hopeful guesses.

Hindi invitation messages (हिंदी में)

For grandparents' circles, family elders and hometown guests, Hindi lands warmer than English. These are written the way families actually speak — not stiff card-printer Hindi.

Should you add the baby's photo?

Yes — one photo, sent as its own message right before the text. A photo doubles the warmth and half the family will save it. But never paste the party details onto the image. Guests scroll back on party day looking for the address, and text baked into a photo can't be copied into Google Maps. Photo first, clean text message second. That combination gets saved, forwarded and actually used.

Rhyming and poem-style invites

Rhymes read well on printed-style cards and get forwarded more than plain text. Keep the logistics below the poem in normal lines — never inside it.

Mundan + first birthday: the combined invite

Very common across North India — the mundan sanskar and the first birthday land on the same muhurat day, one function in the morning, one after lunch. The invite must make the two timings clear, because elders will come for the ceremony and friends will come for the cake. Lead with the mundan (it is the ritual), follow with the birthday, and if the mundan is family-only, say so plainly so nobody feels excluded when they hear about it later. The third Hindi sample above shows the exact format; here is the English version.

🙏 *Mundan Sanskar and First Birthday* 🙏

With God's blessings, our son *Aditya's mundan ceremony and first birthday* fall on the same auspicious day.

📅 Sunday, 7th September
🕘 Mundan: 9 AM (close family)
🕛 Birthday celebration and lunch: 12:30 PM onwards — everyone welcome!
📍 Shri Krishna Garden, Civil Lines, Agra

We seek your presence and blessings.
— Rajesh and Meenakshi Agarwal

From the grandparents' side

In many families the dadu-dadi or nana-nani host the first birthday — it is their celebration as much as the parents'. An invite in their voice carries a different weight with their generation, and their friends are far more likely to come when the invitation is from them directly.

With great joy and gratitude, we invite you to the *first birthday of our grandson Reyansh* — the little king of our home. 👑

📅 Sunday, 17th August
🕛 12:30 PM onwards, lunch to follow
📍 Maheshwari Bhawan, Jodhpur

Your blessings for our grandson would mean the world.

— Om Prakash and Kamla Maheshwari
(Dadu and Dadi)
Our home has been full of laughter for exactly one year. 😊

We, the proud nana-nani, invite you to celebrate *our granddaughter Aavya's first birthday.*

📅 Saturday, 30th August, 7 PM onwards
📍 Hotel Shubh Milan, Nashik
🍽 Dinner will be served

Do join us — it would make the evening complete.
— Suresh and Nirmala Joshi
🙏 *An invitation from the grandparents* 🙏

God has blessed our family with a little angel, and she completes one year this month.

*Riya's 1st Birthday*
📅 Sunday, 14th September
🕛 12 noon, lunch to follow
📍 Our residence — 23, Ram Nagar, Varanasi

Please come with family. Your presence is our honour.
— The Tripathi family
Three generations, one celebration! 🎉

The whole Malhotra family invites you to *little Zoravar's FIRST birthday* — hosted with love by his dadu, dadi, and very sleep-deprived parents.

📅 Sunday, 24th August, 1 PM
📍 Emerald Lawns, Amritsar
🍽 Full Punjabi lunch — come hungry

RSVP: 98XXX XXX72

Inviting colleagues

Keep office invites light and pressure-free. Colleagues appreciate knowing kids are welcome, what the timing is, and that attendance is genuinely optional — say it and mean it.

Hi team! 👋

Stepping out of work mode for a day — my daughter *Aisha turns ONE* this Sunday and Deepika and I are hosting a small lunch.

📅 Sunday, 24th August, 12:30 PM
📍 Green Court Banquet, Powai (10 min from office)

Families and kids most welcome. No pressure at all, but we'd love to see you there!
— Nikhil
Hey Ritu! You've heard me talk about *Dhruv* all year at lunch — now come meet the man himself. 😄

He turns ONE on Saturday and we're having a small party at home.

📅 Saturday, 30th August, 6 PM
📍 A-301, Palm Meadows, Whitefield
🍽 Dinner and (finally) that cake

Bring Rohan and the kids!
Dear Sunil sir,

A personal invitation — my son *Agastya completes one year* on 15th August, and it would be an honour to have you and ma'am join us.

📅 Friday, 15th August, 7 PM onwards
📍 The Regenta Hall, Alkapuri, Vadodara
🍽 Dinner will be served

Warm regards,
Prateek Shah

Last-minute reminder messages

The reminder is not optional — it is the message that actually fills the hall. Send it the evening before, keep it to three or four lines, and attach the location pin again so nobody has to scroll. A second nudge on party morning is fine for close family; for everyone else, once is enough.

Gentle reminder! 😊

*Aarav's 1st birthday lunch is TOMORROW* — Sunday, 12:30 PM at The Terrace Hall, Andheri West.

Sharing the location pin below. 📍
Can't wait to see you there!
It's TODAY! 🎂

*Vihaan ka first birthday* — Sunday 12 baje, Rainbow Banquets, Sector 29.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I mention that it's also the mundan?

Put the mundan first, birthday second — the ceremony sets the tone and timing. Something like: 'We invite you to the mundan sanskar of our son Aarav, followed by his first birthday celebration and lunch.' Give two timings if the ceremony and the party are separate slots, because elders will come for the mundan and younger guests will come for the cake. If the mundan is family-only, say that plainly: 'Mundan in the morning with close family; everyone is welcome from 12:30 PM for the birthday lunch.'

Should the invite come from the baby's voice or the parents'?

Parents' voice for elders and formal guests — a one-year-old 'writing' to your father-in-law's boss reads odd. Baby's voice works well for friends, cousins and colleagues; it is playful and people smile at it. Many parents send two versions: a warm parents-voice message to the family list and a fun baby-voice one to friends. That takes five extra minutes and both groups feel the message was meant for them.

When should I send the invitation?

10 days before the party. Three weeks out and people forget; three days out and the weekend is already booked. Then send a short reminder the evening before — that reminder is what actually gets people to show up. For out-of-town family who need to book travel, call them a month early and let the WhatsApp invite be the formality.

Should I add my baby's photo to the invite?

Yes, one good photo — it doubles the warmth of the message and grandaunts will save it. But send the photo and the text as separate messages, photo first, text second. If you paste text onto the image, half your guests will zoom in to read the venue and give up. The text message is the one people scroll back to for the address on party day, so keep it clean and copyable.

How do I say 'no gifts please' politely?

Say it lightly and give people something else to bring: 'Your blessings are the only gift we want' works for family; 'No gifts — just come hungry' works for friends. Indian guests often bring something anyway, so if you truly want to redirect it, be specific: 'If you'd like to give something, a book for her shelf would make us very happy.' Specific beats polite-vague every time.

Should I send one group message or individual messages?

Individual, for anyone whose attendance you care about. A group broadcast feels like a flyer; a message that opens with 'Sharma Aunty' feels like an invitation, and it gets a reply — which is your RSVP. Use a group only for an office team or a building WhatsApp group where the invite is genuinely open to all. Practical middle path: individual messages to the 30-40 must-come guests, group post for the rest.

Paper lists, scattered WhatsApp groups, missed RSVPs, unclear headcounts for the caterer, and an event manager drowning in follow-ups the week of the wedding. Weddingkart turns all of that into a single WhatsApp-native workflow — invites, RSVPs, travel and ID collection, real-time updates — so couples and their planners actually know what’s going on.

Before Weddingkart, Mayank spent over a decade building consumer internet products in India. At Nykaa he was named the company’s first Distinguished Engineer — its highest individual-contributor role — after leading engineering there as Director. He drove architecture on the Retina platform team and led the Nysaa UAE migration off Shopify onto Nykaa’s infrastructure. Earlier in his career he was part of the engineering team at Saavn during its growth years. He brings that operational, at-scale thinking into an industry that is still, for the most part, run on spreadsheets.
