Quick Answer
What do WABA, BSP and the other WhatsApp business terms mean?
A WABA is a WhatsApp Business Account - the container inside your Meta Business Portfolio that holds your phone numbers, display name, templates and quality score. A BSP is a Business Solution Provider, a company Meta has approved to connect businesses to the platform. A template is a pre-approved message format, required for the first message to someone who has not written to you in the last 24 hours. Quality rating is Meta's score based on whether recipients block or report you, and it decides your messaging limit - how many different people you may message in a rolling 24 hours.

WhatsApp Business Platform Glossary

WhatsApp business setup comes with a pile of acronyms that nobody explains, usually because the person explaining has forgotten they are acronyms. Here is every term you will actually meet, in the order you will meet it.
The terms, in plain English

The four that matter most
If you only keep four of these, make it these.
WABA. Your WhatsApp Business Account. When someone asks “which WABA is this number on”, they are asking which container it belongs to - which matters because that container is owned by somebody, and ideally that somebody is you.
Template. The pre-approved message. Every first contact needs one, which is why you cannot simply type an invitation and press send to 400 people. Covered properly in why Meta rejects templates.
Quality rating. Your number’s reputation, set by how recipients react rather than by what you write. It is the input to your sending limit, which makes it the most consequential number in your account. See quality rating explained.
Messaging limit. How many different people you may start conversations with in a rolling 24 hours. An unverified account sits at 250 - which is why a 500-guest wedding needs verification before anything else. See messaging limits.
Two that get confused constantly
Business Verification and Meta Verified sound like the same thing and are completely unrelated. One is free, is about whether your company is real, and raises how many people you can message. The other is a paid subscription that puts a tick next to your name and does not move your sending limits, though it does add impersonation protection, prioritised support and multi-device access.
If someone tells you that you need to pay for a badge before you can send invitations, they are either confused or selling you something. You need the free one.
And one you will hear us say
BYOW - bring your own WhatsApp. It means sending from your own company number and name rather than a shared one, so guests see your brand instead of a generic sender. It is a choice rather than a requirement, and we lay out both sides in the guide to choosing a sending number.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does WABA stand for?
WhatsApp Business Account. It is the WhatsApp-specific container created inside your Meta Business Portfolio, and it holds your phone numbers, your display name, your approved message templates and your quality score. It is the thing that actually sends messages - everything else in setup exists to bring it into being.
What is a BSP?
A Business Solution Provider - a company Meta has approved to connect businesses to the WhatsApp Business Platform and, usually, to provide the software you send from. Weddingkart is one. Going through a BSP means you get a usable interface and someone accountable when something breaks, rather than calling Meta's API yourself.
What is the difference between a template and a normal message?
A template is a pre-approved message format that Meta has reviewed before you are allowed to send it. You need one for the first message to anyone who has not written to you in the last 24 hours - which for a guest list means every single invitation. Once a guest replies, a 24-hour window opens in which you can send normal free-form messages with no template at all.
What is a quality rating and how do I keep it healthy?
It is Meta's score for each of your phone numbers, based almost entirely on how recipients react - blocks and reports push it down, reads and replies hold it up. It matters because it gates your messaging limit. Keeping it healthy is mostly about who you message rather than what you write: send to people expecting to hear from you, identify yourself in the first line, and honour opt-outs immediately.
Is Meta Verified the same as Business Verification?
No, and confusing them is expensive. Business Verification is free, is Meta confirming your company is real, and it raises your daily sending limit from 250 to 2,000 and upward, shared across every number in the portfolio. Meta Verified is a paid monthly subscription that shows a badge next to your name and adds impersonation protection, prioritised support and multi-device access - useful things, but none of them move your sending limits. For running a wedding, only the first one changes what you can do.
