Quick Answer

How do you get the green tick on WhatsApp Business?

You apply for it in WhatsApp Manager, but approval is not guaranteed. The badge everyone calls the green tick marks an Official Business Account, and Meta actually displays it as a blue checkmark. To request it, open the phone number's profile in WhatsApp Manager and submit a request for Official Business Account status. Four gates come first: your portfolio must have passed Business Verification, the number must have been registered for at least 30 days, two-factor authentication must be on, and your display name must be approved. Past those, the decision rests on how notable and widely recognised the brand is, so most businesses are declined - you can re-apply 30 days later. It is also not the thing that changes what you can do: Business Verification is what lifts your sending limit from 250 recipients a day to 2,000 and upward.

How to Get the WhatsApp Green Tick

Abstract illustration of three distinct marks of differing prominence
Three things called verified. Only one changes how many people you can reach.

The green tick is the most asked-about and least useful thing in WhatsApp business setup. People chase it, pay for things they believe will produce it, and skip the free step that actually changes what their account can do.

So here is the honest version, including the part most guides avoid saying.

Three different things called verified

Green tick versus Business Verification versus Meta Verified

Read that table once and most of the confusion in this topic disappears. The free one is the useful one. The famous one is the one you probably cannot get.

Why you probably will not get the tick

Official Business Account status is not a tier you reach by doing things properly. Meta grants it based on whether the brand is notable - press coverage, public recognition, the sort of thing that exists independently of your WhatsApp account entirely.

There is no document set that produces one and no form that reliably works. Plenty of large, well-run, fully verified businesses never receive it.

Which means any agency offering the green tick as a deliverable is promising something they do not control. That is worth knowing before money changes hands.

The thing you should do instead

Business Verification. Free, document-based, and entirely within your control.

The difference it makes is not cosmetic. An unverified number reaches 250 unique people in 24 hours. A 500-guest wedding cannot be run from that. Verify, and you become eligible to scale to 2,000, with the ceiling rising from there as your quality rating holds up.

It takes a document, a domain email and a live website, and it usually clears in one to three working days. The whole process is in setting up WhatsApp Business API in India, and the common failure is covered in why verification gets rejected.

What guests actually notice

Worth ending on, because it reframes the whole question.

A guest receiving a wedding invitation does not scan for a badge. They look at the name at the top of the chat and the photo beside it. If those say your event company and show your logo, the message reads as legitimate. If they say a generic shared sender, it does not - badge or no badge.

Both of those are fully within your control on your own number, instantly and without approval. That is a far better use of attention than a tick you cannot influence, and it is covered in changing your WhatsApp name and photo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for the WhatsApp green tick?

Yes. In WhatsApp Manager, open Overview, select your phone number, go to Profile and submit a request under Official business account. You must already have passed Business Verification, had the number registered for 30 days, enabled two-factor authentication and had your display name approved. What you cannot do is guarantee the outcome: unlike business verification, which is a document check you complete and pass, this decision rests on how notable and widely recognised the brand is - press coverage, public prominence, that kind of signal. Most businesses are declined, and you can submit again after 30 days.

Will paying for Meta Verified give me the green tick?

No, and this is the most expensive misunderstanding in this area. Meta Verified is a paid monthly subscription. It is a genuinely useful product - impersonation protection, prioritised support with a human agent, and multi-device access - but it is a different thing from Official Business Account status, and neither of them affects how many people you can message per day. If someone is selling you a subscription as the route to higher sending limits, that is not what it does.

What actually raises my sending limit then?

Business Verification, which is free. An unverified business portfolio can start conversations with only 250 people a day; completing verification makes it eligible to scale to 2,000, and the ceiling then climbs to 10,000, 100,000 and eventually unlimited as long as your quality rating stays healthy and you keep using a reasonable share of your current limit. Since October 2025 the limit sits on the business portfolio and is shared by every phone number in it, rather than being counted per number.

Do guests trust a message less without the green tick?

In practice the far more important signal is the sender name and photo, which you control on your own number. Guests see your business name at the top of the chat and your logo beside it. That is what makes a message feel legitimate to someone receiving a wedding invitation - not a badge most businesses in any industry do not have.

Is there anything I can do to improve my chances?

Clear the four eligibility gates first - Business Verification, 30 days registered, two-factor authentication on, display name approved - because a request cannot succeed without them. Past that it is indirect and slow: the signals Meta uses are things like independent press coverage and genuine public recognition of the brand. What does not help is paying a subscription or using an agency that promises the badge as a deliverable - nobody outside Meta controls the decision.
